What Nanjing locals call an “iron tote” (tie liaoxiang) is really the steel pallet box. We build totes for heavy loads, so we choose steel; older hands and buyers new to steel totes keep the old “iron” name, meaning the same thing. Structure: the base frame joins rectangular tubes and welded steel plate; the sides use steel mesh or steel plate on rectangular tubes; add stacking feet and forklift slots and you have a complete tote. It differs from a cage: cages are mostly wire mesh for light-to-medium parts; the iron tote uses rectangular tube plus steel plate for heavier loads, and for material that must sit on a solid bottom.
